Five pieces of tech for planning a magical wedding
Spring is here. Love is in the air and wedding season is upon us with all it’s glory. Now, there are two types of people out there — those who love planning a wedding, and those who hate it. If you or someone you know are part of the latter group, we’re here to help. Weddings are a special occasion, and the overall experience should be nothing short of magical. So here are five pieces of technology that will make the process a whole lot easier and, dare we say, fun?
Let’s start with the fun stuff and the key to any great party — music. You might be the type to trust the DJ to do his thing, but if you have a particular taste in music (or a Type A personality), you should consider building out a playlist before the wedding as a guide for your DJ. Perhaps even a “do not play” list to avoid the songs that really irk you. Spotify is a great tool for this, and it’s free. Of course, that comes with the caveat of a few ads between songs, but you can upgrade to premium for $9.99 a month. Reasonable right? Just look at it as monthly insurance that protects you and your guests from some of the insufferable wedding classics, like “YMCA, Sweet Caroline and Don’t Stop Believing.”
There are a ton of moving pieces when planning a wedding, and if you don’t do it right, it probably won’t be magical. There is a lot that goes into the big day, including selecting the: venue, photographer, videographer, DJ, officiant, wedding coordinator, florist, photo booth, cake, caterer, rentals, decor, invitations, accommodations, transportation, restaurant for the rehearsal dinner, guest list, tuxedo and/or dress. Did we miss anything? We definitely did. Keeping track of the status of things can be nearly impossible, but not if you have Trello, which enables you to “organize and prioritize your projects in a fun, flexible and rewarding way.” They even have a wedding template and the overall service is free!
We did forget something — the wedding website. This is critical for housing all the details for the event, so your guests know when to be where, what to get you, etc. But most importantly, it’s a perfect place to show off the hundreds of pictures from your engagement photo session which likely wouldn’t see the light of day otherwise. Squarespace is by far the best option for building your wedding website and it has beautiful design options. It’s flexible, easy to use and affordable, with a month-to-month billing option so you can turn it off when the wedding is over. Or better yet, keep it a little longer and post your wedding pictures so your guests can reminisce on what a magical day it was.
Now onto the not-so fun stuff — getting in shape. It’s common for brides and grooms to want to look their very best on their wedding day, and that includes feeling fit. But sometimes the process of getting there can be a total drag, especially if you go down the elimination diet route. Remember, this experience should be magical, and there is nothing magical about putting limitations on what you can eat. Being “hangry” is a real thing and not a good look for anyone. To spice things up a bit, get yourself a Fitbit activity tracker and make the process enjoyable for you and your future spouse. Set up a challenge with your significant other to see who can get the most steps in a week. Winning is a great feeling, as is always being right.
5.) Portal WiFi Router
You can’t do any of the above without reliable WiFi, which is where Portal comes in. Imagine having slow WiFi or losing connection while trying to browse Pinterest for inspiration or partaking in a bidding war on Ebay for mason jars. NOT MAGICAL. The last thing you need during this time is more stress. So avoid it altogether and get yourself a Portal for a seamless planning experience. As a pre-wedding gift to you, we’ve discounted the router for a limited time so you can kick the season off right. It is marked down from $199 to $149.02 through May 11. Don’t leave this deal at the alter!
